Siew Hoon, like so many daughters and sons of the early Chinese immigrants to Penang, owe her life to these jetties. It is from here that new arrivals are welcomed and given a helping hand to start their new lives.

Siew Hoon is the youngest of three siblings and was born with the spirit of a restless horse, so her father told her. Since she was young, she’s been curious about the world and yearned to travel. And she got her wings when she joined a travel trade publication in her early days as a journalist. And in that groove she’s stayed till now.
When not on the road, she hangs out with her two golden retrievers, Bowie and Florence, who remind her constantly that every now and then, she ought to stay home with them.
